Lameness assessments are a cornerstone of our practice. We believe that diagnosing and treating lameness is as much an art as it is a science, requiring not only technical expertise but also experience, intuition, and a deep understanding of the horse. Our veterinarians are passionate about staying current with the latest research, diagnostic techniques, and therapies to provide the most accurate assessments and effective treatments possible.

We are committed to working closely with our clients, taking the time needed to thoroughly evaluate each case and develop a personalized diagnosis and treatment plan. Our ultimate goal is to help horse owners return their horses to soundness, support their long-term performance, and protect the well-being of horses in training.

Bella Vista Equine offers advanced diagnostic imaging and cutting-edge treatment options, including extracorporeal shockwave therapy, stem cell therapy, IRAP, and PRP. We also integrate conventional treatments with acupuncture and chiropractic care to support musculoskeletal health and manage pain effectively.

Services

Treatments may include:

Therapeutic Joint Injections

Targeted joint injections are used to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and support joint function in horses with arthritis, soft tissue injuries, or joint degeneration. We use a variety of therapeutic products to deliver the most effective treatment for each case:

Pro-Stride (IRAP + PRP Combination)

Pro-Stride is an advanced regenerative therapy that combines the benefits of IRAP and PRP into one treatment. Using the horse’s own blood, this system produces a concentrated, anti-inflammatory, and healing-rich injection to reduce joint inflammation and promote tissue regeneration—all in a single visit.

IRAP (Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist Protein) Therapy

IRAP therapy uses a processed sample of the horse’s own blood to create a serum rich in anti-inflammatory proteins. This is injected directly into affected joints to help slow the progression of osteoarthritis and reduce pain.

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) Therapy

PRP is another regenerative therapy in which platelets are concentrated from the horse’s blood and injected into damaged tissues—such as tendons, ligaments, or joints. The growth factors released by the platelets stimulate healing, improve tissue strength, and reduce recovery time.

A2M Injections for Equine Therapy

Alpha-2-Macroglobulin (A2M) injections are an advanced, regenerative treatment used to support joint health in horses. A2M is a naturally occurring blood protein that helps inhibit the enzymes responsible for cartilage breakdown in conditions like osteoarthritis. By isolating and concentrating A2M from the horse’s own blood, this therapy targets the root causes of joint degeneration, offering a proactive approach to managing inflammation and preserving joint function. A2M injections are especially beneficial for performance horses or those recovering from joint injuries, helping to extend mobility, comfort, and long-term soundness.

Renovo for Equine Regenerative Therapy

Renovo is a cutting-edge, amniotic-derived biologic therapy designed to support the healing of soft tissue injuries in horses. Sourced from equine amniotic tissue, Renovo is rich in naturally occurring growth factors, cytokines, and anti-inflammatory proteins that promote tissue regeneration and reduce scar tissue formation. It is commonly used to treat tendon and ligament injuries, helping to accelerate recovery while supporting a more complete and durable healing process. Renovo offers a safe, non-steroidal option for equine athletes needing advanced care, and is gaining recognition as a powerful tool in regenerative medicine.

Arthramid

Arthramid® is an innovative treatment for managing joint pain and lameness in horses. This unique, non-steroidal hydrogel works by restoring joint function and improving comfort, providing long-lasting relief from osteoarthritis and joint inflammation. Unlike traditional treatments, Arthramid® integrates with the joint’s natural tissues to enhance cushioning and stability, helping horses return to soundness and maintain peak performance.

Holistic and Non-Invasive Treatments

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy uses high-energy sound waves to stimulate blood flow, reduce inflammation, and speed healing in soft tissue injuries, tendon/ligament issues, and certain types of back pain. It is a powerful, non-invasive treatment commonly used in both acute and chronic cases.

Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy involves a series of microinjections into the middle layer of the skin (mesoderm) to relieve localized musculoskeletal pain—especially in the neck and back. This therapy targets the nerve supply in painful areas to disrupt pain cycles and restore comfort and mobility.

Chiropractic Evaluation & Adjustment

Equine chiropractic care focuses on maintaining proper spinal alignment and joint mobility. Misalignments (subluxations) can interfere with performance, comfort, and overall health. Our veterinarians are trained to perform thorough chiropractic assessments and gentle, targeted adjustments to improve balance, movement, and nerve function.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture stimulates specific points on the horse’s body using very fine needles to encourage natural healing. It can be used to manage pain, improve circulation, balance internal systems, and support recovery from injuries or chronic conditions. Acupuncture is often integrated into performance maintenance plans or rehabilitation programs.

Rehabilitation Plans

Each horse’s recovery is unique. We design customized rehabilitation plans that may include controlled exercise programs, therapeutic modalities (such as laser or shockwave), nutrition support, and regular evaluations. Our goal is to safely return horses to full function—whether after surgery, injury, or chronic lameness—while minimizing setbacks and improving long-term outcomes.
